Credit where it's due. A modern budget monitor gives you real advantages over headphones:
Physical low end. You feel bass in the room, which makes kick and bass decisions more intuitive.
Real crosstalk. Sound from each speaker reaches both ears, so your brain builds an actual stereo scene rather than a wide smear.
Head movement. You can shift position and hear the mix change, which is diagnostic information headphones can't give you.

Do all four before considering a better pair. The improvement is larger and it costs nothing.
